Biography

Tom Westort is an experienced corporate attorney who represents entrepreneurs, closely-held businesses, growth companies and established businesses with their daily legal needs. Business owners rely on Tom’s outstanding service and expertise with matters related to general corporate and business law, including complex contract negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, commercial and venture financing, regulatory compliance and other related business matters.

Tom has over twelve years experience helping business clients, and prior to founding Westort Law, Tom practiced corporate law with two major Boston firms, Ropes & Gray and Prince Lobel.  At these firms, Tom serviced a broad range of clients, including small to medium-size high-tech, biotech and manufacturing companies and very large media, publishing, private equity and LBO funds. He advised clients in aspects of debt and equity financing, corporate governance, acquisition and disposition transactions and public bond finance. Tom also practiced corporate law in the Providence, Rhode Island firm Adler, Pollock & Sheehan, PC.

Tom serves as a trusted business advisor to his clients. In addition to his expertise as a business lawyer, Tom puts his experience as a Massachusetts licensed CPA and Real Estate Broker to work for his clients. Prior to law school, he spent several years working with a national accounting firm, where he developed a keen awareness of the financial aspects of business decisions.

Tom is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he served as an editor for the Journal of International Economic Law and was an active member and advisor for the Penn Law Entrepreneurship Legal Clinic. He completed a significant portion of his law school coursework at the Wharton School examining the intersection of law and business.

Tom graduated summa cum laude from the University of Massachusetts in 1995. He earned his B.B.A. at the Isenberg School of Management with a concentration in accounting science and a minor in Latin American studies. Tom has traveled extensively in Latin America, and is fluent in Spanish.

Tom is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and is a member of the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Bar Associations.
